Battlefield 1403 Festival

Battlefield 1403’s Harvest & Heritage Food Fair is taking place in Shrewsbury on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September.

Now in its 7th year the popular festival is housed in a purpose built marquee packed with the best of local produce to enable you to sample, taste and enjoy.

Local producers will be on hand throughout the weekend answering visitors questions from how they make their produce to the best way to enjoy it.

From cheeses, preserves and pates to ciders, wines, cakes and confectionery, it’s all at Battlefield 1403’s Harvest & Heritage Food Fair.

Battlefield 1403 also aim to sample some of their own home produce, especially their fine woodland reared, home cured Bacon and Gammon steaks.

Whilst the event is mainly food focused with around 20 different food and drink suppliers, food related books will also be on sale.

One new producer at this year’s event is Battlefield Brewery, located just down the road off Harlescott Lane. Their brews include Gold, Amber, Mild, Citrus Blast, Sabut Jung and its historically named 1403 beer Archers. They have also launched a Shropshire Lager.

General Manager Craig Bryant is excited about the lineup of producers at year’s event.

“We are very lucky in Shropshire because we have such a fantastic range of truly delicious locally produced food and drink. At Battlefield, we tend to source most of our products from within 50 food miles, and many of these will be represented in our sampling marquee.

“We cover the centre of a courtyard with a large but comfortable marquee, which we fill with a variety of local producers sampling their fine products, putting a name to a face for customers and informing them about the provenance of the food they buy.

“It’s not just about our local suppliers either. Battlefield is famed for its butchery, which supplies the farm shop and cafe, as well as selling directly to customers. The team is very proud of its home produce, particularly the woodland reared pork, bacon and gammon, which we will also be sampling throughout the weekend.”

The two day event takes place on between 10am – 5pm on Saturday 3rd and 10am – 4pm on Sunday 4th September. Entry is free, with the site having full disabled access.

As well as the festival, visitors can also learn about the Battle of Shrewsbury at the free visitor centre or visit Battlefield Falconry Centre which offers a variety of activities for all the family to enjoy. There is a small charge but is well worth the visit with hawks, owls and even vultures!

Sparrows Cafe will also be serving meals, snacks and cakes which are freshly prepared to order using ingredients from the shop and other local sources.

Battlefield 1403 is situated just outside Shrewsbury on the A49.
