A Shropshire hand crafted lager made using the traditional German brewing process is now available to drinkers in the south of the county.

The Boyne Arms, at Burwarton, is the first south Shropshire pub to sell Shropshire Lager on tap.

The lager, which is brewed at Battlefield Brewery in Shrewsbury, has proved a hit with locals, said landlords Kevin and Sue Geyton.

“We find that our regulars are pretty loyal to their lagers, but once they try the Shropshire Lager they absolutely love it,” said Mr Geyton.

“We believe that it has got a great deal more flavour and body than most conventional, mass-produced lagers, so we see no reason why it won’t be a great success.

“With warmer weather hopefully not too far away, I am confident it will become ever more popular.”

Graham Boulger is the owner and managing director of Battlefield Brewery, which is based in Battlefield in Shrewsbury.

He said that while several pubs and bars in Shrewsbury and north Shropshire sold the craft lager, the Boyne Arms was the first pub in the south of the county to stock it.

He added: “We were delighted that Kevin and Sue agreed to give the lager a try – we are enormously proud of it.

“Shropshire Lager is the result of months of development and fine tuning and we believe it has a really great flavour.

“I hope it proves popular at the Boyne Arms and we are slowly rolling it out across the rest of Shropshire.”
