Shrewsbury High School has been announced as the location for this year’s Great Shropshire Bake Off, organised by Shropshire Rural Communities Charity.

One of the event organisers, Julia Wenlock, said: “The location is perfect and we are hoping to attract even more people to the fete-styled day on Sunday 27 September, to follow on from the success of the previous two annual events which raised valuable funds for Shropshire RCC causes.

“The day promises to be fun for all the family with activities, a raffle, tombola, cake stalls and displays by local traders, crafters and food artisans.

“The main Formal Bake Off competition will see serious amateurs and professional bakers compete by creating a ‘showstopper’ cake on the day itself and hoping to take the title, with a Gelato professional ice cream maker being donated by Cuisinart for the overall winner.

“Competitions for the General Bake Off allows entrants to bake a huge variety of cakes at home and bring their efforts in for judging on the day.

“Our pop-up café will provide Bake Off burgers and soup while cakes entered for the general competition will be sold off to raise vital funds as part of the day.

“New categories this year will include jam and bread making categories and a biscuit class for traditional Shrewsbury Biscuits to celebrate our move to the High School.”

Joanna Jepson, marketing manager for Shrewsbury High School, added: “We are delighted to be hosting this fantastic day and are looking forward to welcoming people to the school in for what promises to be such a great day.

“Parents, staff and pupils have already been ‘cooking up a storm’ in the kitchens, trying out their baking recipes in order to create entries in most of the categories, so we think competition will be rather fierce on the day.”
