The Aston in Newport, run by Heart FM DJ Nick Snaith, has put on a mouthwatering calendar of events running from April 22 to May 2 to help customers make the most of the landmark events.

A beer festival will run throughout the length of the festivities, offering real ale fans the chance to make the most of the two Bank Holiday weekends.

There will also be stacks of activities for families and children, with a tug o’ war, Easter Sunday treasure hunt, barbecue, face-painting, giant Jenga, live music and a quiz taking place throughout the festival.

Of course, the Royal wedding on April 29 will be a main focal point, with staff dressing up in Royal regalia and the kitchen serving up a full English breakfast to those interested in watching the proceedings.

Nick explained: “We have been here less than a year but already we have got to know so many people in the community and they have become a big part of our lives. The locals have shown us huge amounts of loyalty and support so in return we wanted to do a big event for everyone to enjoy.”

Nick, who grew up in Newport and used to run The Swan at Forton with his parents, Colin and Ruth, said it was events like this that made him proud to be British.

“As a nation we are pretty poor at celebrating our heritage so hopefully people will come along and make the most of St George’s Day, Easter and the Royal wedding.

“The staff will be dressing up in Royal regalia on April 29 and we have brought in a TV for those wanting to watch the wedding with the comfort of a full English breakfast.”

Nick, along with head chef Paul Bird, has also devised a menu through the ages – a four-course spectacular which pays homage to the landmark Royal occasions of the last 60 years.

“We wanted to have some fun with the menu,” added Nick. “While all our regular dishes will be served throughout the festival, on April 27 we’ll be putting on dishes that were being served up across the country during the Coronation of 1953
and the Silver Jubilee of 1977.

“It will be great fun and we’re just keeping our fingers crossed for the weather. While it’s a Great British Festival we don’t want the weather to spoil it!”
