Shrewsbury boost as star Scunthorpe striker is out

Shrewsbury will not have to worry about striker Tom Hopper as the former Leicester City man is out with an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old has been ruled out for a number of weeks, meaning he will miss his side’s trip to the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.

Hopper has notched 15 league goals in 50 games for the in-form Irons so far – including three this season.

He began his career at Boston United, before signing for last season’s shock Premiership Champions in 2010.

But he failed to make a league appearance, and was restricted to cameo roles in cup competitions.

He scored three goals in 22 league matches for Bury during the 2012/13 season. Hopper netted four times in 12 league games, during a loan spell with his current side in 2015.

But he would soon be the centre of national headlines. Hopper, along with Leicester teammates James Pearson and Adam Smith, were sacked by the Foxes after a sex tape video emerged of the trio whilst the club were on tour in Thailand.

However, on the football pitch Hooper has played a vital part in the Irons’ impressive start to the campaign; with Graham Alexander’s side currently located in 2nd place.

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander has called the injury “a big blow.”

The former Preston manager told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “Tom (Hopper) picked up the injury in training when it was an innocuous challenge.

“It damaged his ankle and it is a big blow for Hops and a big blow for us because he has been superb.”
