Shrewsbury given boost with possible Kaikai extension

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has hailed Mickey Mellon for his use of Kaikai – and he indicated that he will not require the player to feature in the Championship at present.

The exciting 20 year old has performed superbly for Shrewsbury so far this season; and many feared that his eye-catching displays would prompt teams higher up in the Football League to make a move for him.

Kaikai has been linked with a loan move to Championship teams Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Charlton Athletic.

However, the manager of his parent club Alan Pardew, insists he is happy with where the winger is.

The former Newcastle boss said: “Why change the environment? Why does he need to go and play in the Championship?

Kaikai has scored five times in 12 appearances for Town so far this season, and Pardew is keen for the former Cambridge loanee to continue with the experience.

He added: “For Sullay to deliver there is great news for us – I’m very pleased and if I don’t call him back, hopefully he can stay there.”

Meanwhile, it appears that Mickey Mellon is unlikely to leave Shrewsbury for Walsall – the Saddlers are thought to be keen on appointing Sean O’Driscoll.
