Libby and Tom Weetman, of Knockin, near Oswestry, are the great niece and nephew of Ryder Cup golfing legend Harry Weetman, who was from Oswestry, and who played and captained the national team in the 1950s and 60s.
The youngsters both attend the Corbett School in Baschurch and are members of Llanymynech Golf Club where 15-year-old Tom, who plays off a handicap of 8, recently took the Junior Club Championship title and Libby, aged 12, won the Girls Shield and came second overall in the Shropshire & Herefordshire Junior Handicap Championship for Boys & Girls, off a handicap of 27 and in only her first ever proper competition.
Their father, Gary Weetman, nephew of eight-times Ryder Cup player Harry Weetman, who himself plays off a handicap of 24, said: “We are very proud of both children and their achievements so far. This is a wonderful game and they receive tremendous support as members of Llanymynech Golf Club and I hope they go on to greater things in the future and help to keep the Weetman family golfing tradition alive.”
