The club will be distributing 540 free tickets to both adults and children as part of the effort to promote the game, which kicks off at 7.30pm on Friday 5 September.

The Young Lions are coached by former Watford and Coventry City boss Aidy Boothroyd, who worked with many of the current squad earlier this year when he assisted the England under 19s.

Tickets for the game against Romania cost £3 and £1.50 and can be purchased at the ticket office at New Bucks Head Stadium or by calling 01952 640064.

AFC Telford United managing director Lee Carter said: “In terms of England’s international teams, the under 20s is only behind the under 21 and senior teams in terms of importance of their fixtures.

“I am delighted that we have been chosen as the venue to host the squad’s first game of the season.”

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet liaison with AFC Telford United, said: “This announcement is fantastic timing with the new season having just started on Saturday and I am delighted that there will be a number of free tickets available for local children.

“I am sure local fans will create that special Telford atmosphere to roar England under 20s on.”
