Telford Tigers look to build EPL play-offs momentum

A trip to Berkshire awaits Tom Watkins’ men on Saturday evening, before title-chasing Manchester arrive in Shropshire the next day (5.30pm).

Both games could prove pivotal in deciding who the Tigers play in the end-of-season tournament, with fourth place in the EPL standings still up for grabs.
And Watkins is keen for his side to continue their current run of 11 wins in 14 games.

He said: “It feels like we have achieved a lot this season already, but there is still a long way to go, starting with this weekend. It is so important that we keep the consistency of winning.

“Bracknell on Saturday will be desperate for the two points, especially after we beat them so well last weekend. We have got our own job to do and we know what we want to achieve.”

Sunday’s clash with Manchester is seen by many as a dress-rehearsal for next month’s play-off final, with both sides enjoying a rich vein of form. Tony Hand’s men emerged 1-0 winners from last month’s visit to Shropshire, which at the time was seen as a surprise result.

Telford Tigers were, at that point, riding high on confidence after a run of nine successive wins, and had climbed to fifth in the EPL standings.

The Tigers are still secure in that lofty position, and Watkins is looking for his side to regain the initiative against their likely play-off opponents.

“Sunday is very much about payback for us,” he said.

“You never want to drop points at home, especially with just a few games left. We want to pick up the win and make Telford Ice Rink a difficult place to come to.

“It will be a close and exciting game to watch, and if we can score early on, then there is likely be quite a few goals.”

Watkins has few injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s games, with Sunday’s visit of Manchester facing off at 5.30pm.
