The 28-year-old joins Telford after scoring 56 goals in just two seasons with the Hampshire outfit.
Miller has already struck 16 times in 15 games this term – making him the top home-grown forward in the league.
Tigers Team Manager Paul Thomason believes the club’s latest capture will send out a “serious” message to Telford’s rivals.
He said: “Joe is a tough, in-your-face sort of player, and we know he doesn’t take any rubbish from other teams. He is a gritty player and has scored a lot of goals. He is also a very good character off the ice, which is really important. Signing Joe from a top team like Basingstoke adds further weight to how serious Telford Tigers are about ice hockey and growing the sport not just in Telford but around the country. We are fortunate that Red Hockey and Wayne Scholes are serious about where we want to go and support us in our plans.”
Wayne Scholes, CEO of Red Hockey, expressed his excitement at Joe Miller joining the Telford family. “I am so happy to welcome Joe and his family to Telford; as a player I value him tremendously but as a leader I respect him so much. I am excited to welcome him to Telford and to see him play a very important part of the Tigers family over the next decade as we build the future of hockey in the country.”
The Cardiff-born player will, however, have to serve a six-week notice period at his current club with Scholes saying, “Joe is worth the wait, we are interested in long term not short term”. He is expected to start his second spell for Telford on January 1st, having previously played in Shropshire five years ago.
Miller said: “It is a really exciting time to be joining Telford, and it was a big decision to leave so many friends and family to move here. Everyone close to me has been really supportive in making this change. That said, the plans in place at the Tigers make it a massive challenge for me. It can only be good for the league that other teams, like Telford, can challenge the top three.
“I played for Telford at the start of my career and they really looked after me, so it is great to go back and build something special.”
Telford Tigers continue their EPL campaign on Sunday at 5.30pm, when they play host to Swindon Wildcats.
