A late season run of form, including last weekend’s emphatic wins against Manchester and Peterborough has seen Tigers become one of the leagues toughest opponents of late.
With both games this weekend against teams who have made it through to the end of season playoffs, it highlights what a roller coaster this year has been for the club, with a host of injuries, illness and disruption due to the refurbishment of the rink at the start of the campaign.
Tigers player-coach Tom Watkins talking about the final weekend said “It’s our last home game, and with our recent results, we’re hoping for a bumper crowd on Saturday, play as we have been lately and end our season on a high.”
Reflecting on the season, Watkins continued “It’s been a struggle, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes to get the club in a position to move forward, at times it’s been difficult for the team and the fans with players coming and going through no fault of the club, and illness which left us a bit light for a while. The additions of McKenzie, Senko and Karpov really helped once they had settled in, we’re a young club and team, but the guys have shown excellent character, especially over the past couple of months. We’ve been out of the playoffs for a while, but they have kept working hard, and that’s shown in the performances and results of late.”
Looking ahead to next season, Watkins commented “A lot depends on recruitment for next year, but we will be working hard to get the right players in and that process is already underway.”
Tigers game against Bracknell faces off at 5.30pm at Telford Ice Rink on Saturday.
