Ryan McGorrigan had given the Tynesiders the lead just after the half-hour mark at the International Stadium, but Steven Leslie was able to equalise for the visitors midway through the second period while Josh Gillies was unable to put his spot-kick past Young.
The result left Gateshead 11th in the standings with 16 points from their opening 12 league matches, while the Bucks are two places lower down but only one point worse off.
The hosts got off to a strong start and Yemi Odubade looked destined to open the scoring after bursting through on goal 15 minutes in, but Young was already looking in top form as he made a decent save.
A minute later though and Ian Bogie’s men did take the lead, McGorrigan having the simple job of tapping home following a brilliant pass from Phil Turnbull.
Young was again called into action, doing well to save from Josh Gilles’ effort while the shot-stopper was then also on hand to thwart James Curtis.
Shortly after the restart Telford managed to find a way back, Leslie smashing home the equaliser with a fine strike from the edge of the area.
Jordan Rose gifted the hosts the chance to snatch all three points in the final few minutes after bringing down Paddy Boyle in the area, but Gillies was unable to find a way past Young who scooped the Man of the Match award.
