In an emotional statement shared with their community, the founders revealed that the decision followed a period of intense “soul-searching” and difficult conversations, marking the end of a four-year journey.

The founders, who first established their presence in the area with the opening of Tap and Can in late 2019, successfully navigated the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic before expanding into the food-focused venture that became Bird & Beer. Over the last four years, the venue has become a staple of the local community.

In their farewell message, the owners expressed profound gratitude to their patrons and their “absolutely incredible” staff. They noted that the decision was particularly heavy given the loyalty and passion shown by their team, who remained hardworking and kind until the very end.

Despite the personal hours and dedication poured into the business, the owners admitted that Bird & Beer is no longer a viable operation in the current climate, highlighting the immense pressure currently facing independent hospitality venues and restaurants across the country.

While Bird & Beer prepares to shut its doors, the owners issued a poignant plea to the public to continue supporting local hospitality. They urged residents to eat out, tip where possible, and show kindness to staff, noting that every bit of support is vital for the survival of independent businesses during these testing times.

There is, however, a silver lining for loyal customers. The owners confirmed that their original venue, Tap and Can, remains “strong” and will continue to operate. Describing it as their “first born” and the place where their hearts truly lie, they expressed excitement about returning to their roots and continuing to serve the community in the space where their journey first began.
