Residents are being encouraged to have their say on the future of local green space at a public meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning, Saturday 10 January, in Meole Village.

The meeting, organised by Councillor Bernie Bentick, will focus on the proposed development of land situated between New Pulley Lane and the Meole section of the Rea Brook.
As the Liberal Democrat representative for the Meole Electoral Ward on both Shropshire and Shrewsbury Town Councils, Cllr Bentick aims to provide a platform for the community to discuss the background of the site and its environmental significance.
Protecting Local Nature
A key priority for the gathering is to align local efforts with the Government’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Attendees will discuss the vital role this specific corridor plays in the local ecosystem and how it can be better protected or managed in the face of upcoming developments.
Representatives from various flooding and environment-focused organisations have also been invited to lend their expertise to the discussion.
Forming a New Voice: ‘Friends of the Rea Brook Corridor’
Beyond discussing development plans, the meeting marks a formal step toward community-led conservation. Key items on the agenda include:
Formal Naming: Confirming the name of the new community group (proposed as Friends of the Rea Brook Corridor).
Constitution: Making a formal decision on the organisation’s governing structure.
Action Planning: Outlining future steps to protect the corridor and engage with local authorities.
