Shrewsbury Town Council has revealed the winner and runners-up of the Mayor of Shrewsbury’s Christmas Card competition, a festive initiative involving local primary schools.

While in previous years the Mayor has sometimes used pre-designed Christmas cards, for 2025 a competition was launched and promoted to primary schools across Shrewsbury, inviting students to create artwork inspired by themes unique to the town. Pupils were encouraged to get creative and submit their own festive interpretations of Shrewsbury for the chance to feature on the Mayor’s official Christmas cards.
The competition saw many imaginative entries from pupils, making the judging process especially challenging. After careful consideration, The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, selected a winning design by Chloe, a Year 6 student from Coleham Primary School, whose artwork beautifully depicted The Square at Christmas, complete with festive wreaths, trees, and the town’s iconic loggerheads.
Due to the number of outstanding entries the Mayor also selected 4 runners-up:
– Evie, Year 3, St Winefride’s Independent RC School
– Zachary, Year 3, Greenfields Primary School
– Jake, Year 4, Shrewsbury Cathedral Catholic Primary School
– Freya, Year 6, Coleham Primary School
Chloe’s winning illustration will feature on the front cover of The Mayor’s 2025 Christmas cards, and the runners-up will have their artwork showcased on the reverse side.
The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, said:
“Thank you so much to everyone who entered, and a special well done to our winner and runners up – the artists and illustrators of the future are clearly with us now!”
Shrewsbury Town Council extends warm congratulations to all students who took part and thanks the participating schools for supporting this Christmas initiative.
