Shrewsbury-based lifeline services for homeless people and rough sleepers are under threat of closure and ‘desperately need our help’ says a Shropshire MP.

The Ark – for more than 50 years – has been a place of warmth, safety and hope for people with nowhere else to turn, said a spokesperson for the charity. “But We currently do not have enough reserves to remain open through this coming winter.”
Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley visited The Ark this week and said: “I’ve always been extremely impressed by the fantastic work that goes on at The Ark and it was good to catch up with the team as they prepare for the cold weather.
“Their team of advisors and support workers are providing essential lifeline services for rough sleepers and those transitioning into rental tenancies.
“But The Ark is under threat of closure due to lack of funding – and desperately needs our help.
“So, it was great to hear about their fundraising initiatives with the option of monthly support through to joining ‘Friends of the Ark’ which covers 25% of their operating costs.
“Also, it was wonderful to hear about a local donor who has agreed to match-fund any donations in December, up to £50,000. So if you are able to support the work of the team this month, your donation will be doubled.”
The MP added: “Over the decades, countless people have come through the doors at this charity and have said The Ark saved their lives at the very lowest point of their journey. But now, The Ark itself is fighting to survive.”
A charity spokesperson said: “We have streamlined our operations and stripped everything back to the essentials. No luxuries, no marketing budgets, no shareholders. Every penny keeps the doors open, the lights on, and the kettle boiling.”
