Local Councillor Ian Preece has been elected as Mayor of Great Dawley Town Council for a second term. He will be supported by Councillor Ben Carter who has been elected as Deputy Mayor.

During the Annual Council Meeting last night, Cllr Ian Preece was unanimously elected as Mayor of Great Dawley Town Council for the 2023 / 24 term.
During Cllr Preece’s first year as Mayor, he raised over £3,000 for his chosen charity, Severn Hospice. This was accomplished by undertaking extreme challenges such as cycling from Dawley to Dover in less than 24 hours, and taking part in a “Fire Walk” challenge by walking on hot coals, barefoot.
Accompanying the Mayor during his second term will be the new Deputy Mayor, Cllr Ben Carter, who was elected to the new ward of Trinity in May. Cllr Carter is a familiar face to the local community, who attends events hosted by the Town Council, and undertakes weekly ward walks.
Councillor Ian Preece, Mayor Great Dawley Town Council said:
“I am so honoured to have been elected as Mayor of my home town, Great Dawley for a second year. I can’t wait to be out and about again in the community supporting our residents, local businesses and events.
“This year, I plan on continuing with raising funds for Severn Hospice, I will be undertaking an even bigger challenge, which I can’t wait to reveal in full detail soon.”
“I would also like to congratulate Cllr Ben Carter who has been elected as Deputy Mayor for the 2023 /24 term. Cllr Carter is someone who I’ve known for several years and I know he will do a fantastic job, and I very much look forward to working with him.”
Also during the Annual Council Meeting, Cllr Shaun Davies was elected as Chair of the Town Council, with Cllr Raj Mehta elected as Deputy Chair.
The role of the Chair is to oversee the day-to-day running business of the Town Council, as well as chairing Council Meetings.
Cllr Davies who is now the longest serving Town Councillor enters his 17th year on the Town Council 13th year of Town Council Chair, and will be supported by Cllr Raj Mehta as Deputy Chair.
