Shropshire was hit by strong winds and heavy rain for a time this morning with trees and power cables reported to have fallen.
The Met Office say that a gust of wind measuring 84mph was recorded at RAF Shawbury’s weather station.
The branch of an oak tree and power line also came down blocking a road close to the Defence Helicopter Flying School.
At Alderton, Harmer Hill a chimney stack collapsed onto a lean to roof of a property. Firefighters made the building water tight.
Grinshill Animal Rescue also suffered damage following a fallen tree.
Trees also fell on a number of Shropshire roads including the A49 north of Shrewsbury, Marsh Lane, Cheswardine, B4397 between Baschurch and Myddle, Montford Bridge, Station Road in Yorton and the A442 between Waters Upton and Hodnet. In Melverley, Church Lane was blocked after five trees fell onto the carriageway.
West Mercia Police received 52 calls reporting fallen trees in an hour following the strong winds at around 11.30am.
A tree falling on the track between Shrewsbury and Gobowen, also affected Arriva Trains Wales services.
This morning the Met Office issued a Yellow warning saying a brief spell of very strong winds is expected as a line of heavy rain moves eastwards over the UK during Thursday afternoon. Whilst most places will miss the worst a few spots may see gusts in excess of 70 mph.
