Two people were cut free following a collision on the A53 Hodnet bypass on Thursday.

The two car collision happened at around 5.30pm and closed the road between Ternhill and Shawbury.

A silver Ford Fiesta was travelling southbound along the A53 when it was in collision with a grey Jaguar, coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 25-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to North Staffordshire hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the Jaguar, a 56-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Shrewsbury hospital where he was discharged.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, the Midlands Air Ambulance, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

Police are eager to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it. Witnesses are asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident 590S of Thursday 1 September.
