A sod cutting ceremony has taken place at Brook Close, Condover to celebrate construction work commencing to build 10 new affordable homes.

The 14 month build programme, with a contract value of nearly £1m, will provide 8 new houses and 2 bungalows for people to rent who have a local connection to Condover.

Sepp Sargeant, Head of Development at Severnside said “Severnside has worked really closely with Condover Parish Council, local residents, Shropshire Council and Saxonby Homes to successfully develop this site to build much needed affordable housing, specifically for local people.”

Local residents are invited to drop-in to Brook Close Community Centre on Thursday 17th March any time between 3pm and 6.30pm to view and discuss the development proposals to build the 10 new homes, available for rent by people with a local connection to Condover.

Local Cllr Claire Tolley of Condover Parish Council commented “Condover Parish Council are very pleased to be involved in the community led project alongside Severnside Housing to build ten homes that will help local people from our Parish stay within the Condover area. Many of them have children at Condover Primary School or work locally so having the houses in the heart of our village is a huge benefit.

The Parish Council looks forward to working with Severnside Housing and similar Housing Associations in the future to meet the Parishes needs for affordable housing.”

Part of the funding for the new homes has been provided by the Homes and Communities Agency and Shropshire Council through community-led housing grant.

Nick Wood, Communities and Housing Policy Officer at Shropshire Council said “Shropshire Council is committed to helping develop locally needed affordable housing in Shropshire, despite very challenging times. We are particularly keen to help fund such a housing scheme as Brook Close, when delivered through a Community led housing approach. Condover Parish and Severnside Housing have shown how by working closely together from the onset to shape this development, an invaluable asset is created that will benefit the local community for generations to come. Congratulations to all.”

Andrew Copson, Director from Saxonby Homes, who are the contractors appointed to build the homes, also added “We are very pleased to be working with Severnside on what is an important development for Condover. Building housing like this with support from Condover Parish Council will not only provide affordable homes for local people but help to sustain the village through the maintenance of its amenities, such as the local shop and post office.”
