Flooding shuts roads in Shropshire as river levels rise

Rising river levels have closed a number of roads in Shropshire today as the River Severn continues to rise.

The Environment Agency has put up flood barriers in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury and The Wharfage in Ironbridge.

The barriers are expected to remain in place until the weekend.

All shops, restaurants, museums and public houses on the Wharfage and elsewhere in the Gorge.

A peak level of between 3.8 and 4.3 metres is expected to occur in Shrewsbury today, whilst in Ironbridge the river is set to peak at between 5.0 and 5.5 metres on Thursday morning.

– Old Coleham
– Gravel Hill Lane
– Victoria Avenue
– Sydney Avenue
– Chilton Farm Lane Atcham
– Atcham to Cross Houses
– Barley Bank, Westbury
– Lane closure at Coleham Head (due to pumps in place)

Telford and Wrekin:
– The Wharfage, Ironbridge

Bridgnorth:
– Doctors Lane
– Severnside South
