A woman gave birth to a baby on a Telford street with the help of two police constables yesterday.

The pair helped deliver the baby girl after the woman and her husband flagged them down in Pool Meadow, Hadley.

The baby girl was born on the pavement and the constables stayed with the mother and father until an ambulance crew arrived to cut the cord and take them to hospital.

Local residents who also got caught up in the drama have been thanked.

The mother and baby are reported to be doing fine.
