The 31-year-old man from Shropshire was arrested on Saturday night and remains in police custody.

The woman from Oswestry was walking from Oswestry town centre south on the B5069 in the direction of Welshpool when she was sexually assaulted between 2.30am and 3.20am on New Years Day.

After a struggle she managed to escape and seek help from a nearby house.

She was taken to Royal Shrewsbury hospital for treatment.

The B5069 from the Morda crossroads to the junction with the A483 was closed on New Years Day and part of Friday as part of the police investigation.
