Day of Action to take place in Monkmoor area of Shrewsbury

0

It will be the third Day of Action to take place in Shrewsbury and the main area of activity will be around Crowmoor Baptist Church.

The Day of Action is an idea that was initiated by the Shrewsbury Crime & Disorder Partnership, Bronze Level Tasking, which meets on a monthly basis to work jointly on solutions to crime and anti-social behaviour across the town.

The concept behind the Day of Action is that partners like West Mercia Police, Social Landlords, Shropshire Fire and Rescue, Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Council work together on one day, in a high profile and highly visible way, to make a positive impact on a locality. Actions taking place on the day will include traffic and licensing enforcement, community litter pick, assisted by local primary schools. Trading standards talks and advice on Bogus callers.

The day will be running alongside a Senior Citizens Information day being held at Crowmoor Baptist church between 11am and 2.30pm organised by the Shropshire RCC, which is holding safety talks from Police, Fire and other partners. Booking is essential for this event and anyone who is interested in attending should contact Daphne Simmons on 01743 342161 for further information.

Also running in the afternoon is a Big Family event which is being organised by the Shropshire family Information Service and Shropshire Council. This will be held at Crowmoor primary school between 3pm and 6pm with information, activities and fun for all of the family.

Bronze Level Tasking Chair, Inspector Graham Preece, said, “The Day of Action is about working in partnership to address community safety issues within the wards and streets of Shrewsbury. It is a rolling program that will move on to a different Safer Neighbourhood Team area every two months. Eventually, an event will have been held in each of the areas across Shrewsbury and central Shropshire.

Councillor Gwilym Butler, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Engagement, added: “Day of Action events are all about community engagement and working with local people to help make their communities safer and vibrant places to live. I really encourage residents to join the Day of Action and get involved.”

Councillor Steve Charmley, Cabinet Member for Public Protection also commented saying, “We know crime and anti-social behaviour can have an impact on how safe and secure people feel and, as a partnership, we are committed to tackling it. Day of Action events are one of a number of ongoing measures and initiatives we support to identify and help tackle such issues in local communities.”
