Engineer, Adam Walker, said: “As many of the residents in the Orchard Close area of Ketley will know, sewer flooding can be a problem here. We don’t want our customers to suffer, so we’re investing £1 million to install 300 metres of bigger sewers. When they’re in place, they’ll help to keep homes safe from the threat of sewer flooding.
“Our work started in mid July, but until now you might not have seen us. We’ve been working in local fields to create wetlands and ponds, which will capture and store rainwater, meaning not so much ends up in our sewers. When you add to that the new, bigger sewers, the whole system should now be able to handle much more storm water, meaning sewers shouldn’t overflow, and customers should no longer be flooded.”
Work is now moving into the roads in the area, and to keep both the local community and the workforce safe, Waterloo Road will be closed from Monday 11 August. Diversions will be clearly signposted. The views of the community were taken into account with regards to the diversion route, following a drop in session in July.
Adam explains: “We find that listening to suggestions and talking to residents helps us to find those little gems of information, which can make a huge difference to our plans, so it was great to talk to the local community at the drop in session.”
“We were told that Waterloo Road is regularly used by heavy goods vehicles going to and from the industrial estate. With this in mind, we’ll have people available on site throughout the work to help these vehicles and make sure they understand where the diversion route is. This should help to minimise the impact of this work on the area.
“We’re already grateful for the support we’re getting from residents who’ve suffered from sewer flooding in the past and we’re looking forward to getting this work done to help them in the future. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience that this work will cause and reassure our customers that we’ll get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
