Mr Hodgkiss died at the scene of the crash on the A458 Bridgnorth to Stourbridge road at Wootton, Six Ashes.

Mrs Hodgkiss was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she died the following evening.

She was a passenger in a black Ford Mondeo Zetec driven by her husband which was travelling from the Stourbridge direction towards Bridgnorth.

Their car was involved in a collision with a grey Audi A4 TDI estate travelling in the opposite direction towards Stourbridge just after 2.30pm.

The woman driver of the Audi received minor injuries.

Mr and Mrs Hodgkiss were formally identified this afternoon.

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses of the crash or who saw either vehicle being driven immediately beforehand. Contact Bridgnorth or Shrewsbury police stations on 101 or 0300 333 3000.

Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery is expected to open an inquest tomorrow morning.
