He approached the companies as the result of an appeal to his constituents as to what shops they would like to see in the town centre.

High Street names include: Hobbs, Jack Wills, Wagamamma, John Lewis, Pret-a-Manger, MAC, Primark, Karen Millen, Urban Outfitters, Zara, Gant, Space UK, Russell & Bromley, Gap, Jo Malone, Jigsaw, Ecco, Banana Republic, The Entertainer.

Daniel Kawczynski said:

“This has been a very enlightening exercise and I have been overwhelmed by the response that I have received. The people of Shrewsbury have given me a good selection of names for me to pursue.

“I have already had a number of replies to say that they are happy to look at the feasibility of setting up a branch in Shrewsbury and one has even commented that It is good to see a Member of Parliament putting their shoulders behind the wheel to encourage firms to invest in their constituencies. It is very much early days and I need to do a lot more negotiation with companies, but I am determined to do all I can to try and boost the economy of the town.

“It is equally important to remember that a large number of my constituents live within the rural villages and settlements that surround the town centre. As a result of my appeal, Costcutter have been in touch with regard to the setting up of small convenience stores in rural areas. At the moment they have just one shop in Hanwood that does very well and they are looking at other villages where there may be a demand and I intend to approach Parish Council’s to determine whether there would be sufficient demand for a shop within their patch.

“The purpose of the exercise is try and identify what would make people shop more in Shrewsbury rather than go to other towns, and to try an entice those names into the town centre.“
