The equipment is the latest development to strengthen services for cancer patients from across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales, and follows the opening of the £5 million Lingen Davies Centre on the site last year.

News that the new equipment will soon be on site has been warmly welcomed by the whole Radiotherapy Team who are keen to have cutting edge equipment available to treat patients.

The equipment – which uses image guided radiotherapy to target cancer cells – will be hoisted into place by a crane tomorrow morning.

Caroline Mansell, Radiotherapy Service Manager, added: “The new machine and its up-to-date technology will offer our patients a better chance of cancer control with less side effects. This is excellent news for our patients.”

“The installation of the new linear accelerator means we will have an uninterrupted service and state-of-the-art technology to provide accurate and world-class radiotherapy,” said Dr Narayanan Srihari, the Trust’s cancer care champion.

The new linear accelerator will replace an existing piece of equipment currently being used on site.
