It happened between 1am and 1.30am on Saturday outside the Vodka Source Bar in Barker Street.

The victim was punched to the head during an incident where another man and a woman were involved in an altercation. The blow caused him to fall to the ground.

He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and later transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy said today: “The victim suffered a serious injury to his head and we are anxious to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or the circumstances leading up to it.

“I would appeal to them to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101.”
