Ironbridge residents invited to flooding drop in today

The event is being put on by Telford & Wrekin Council in partnership with the Environment Agency and Severn Trent Water and will take place at The Malthouse pub today between 2-7pm.

The session is an opportunity to meet with the council to voice any comments about how The Wharfage is currently defended from flooding by the River Severn.

Telford & Wrekin Council will also take the opportunity to introduce possible alternative options for flood protection in the Ironbridge Gorge.

Representatives from the council and its partners will be present throughout the day to talk to residents.

Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport and Community Protection, said: “Anyone who lives close to a major river has to deal with a unique set of challenges when the water rises.

“We are looking at a variety of different options for The Wharfage to make life easier for local residents when they are faced with the River Severn bursting its banks.

“We are looking forward to discussing these at the session at the Malthouse pub and hope that as many local residents who are affected by flooding in the Ironbridge area will attend.”
