Flood Warnings in force as river levels rise in Shropshire

Flood Warnings are in place for the River Severn at Melverley, Pentre and River Severn in Shrewsbury.

Following rising river levels the Environment Agency installed Flood barriers at Frankwell in Shrewsbury overnight. Barriers this morning were also installed at Severnside North in Bewdley.

In Ironbridge barriers will be erected at 9pm tonight. Police cones are being deployed on the Wharfage to enable the bungs to be put in the gulleys. The Wharfage will be closed to traffic from 8pm.

Flood Alerts are currently in force on the River Teme and its tributaries downstream of Ludlow, River Teme, River Onny and River Corve & their tributaries upstream of Ludlow, Rea and Cound Brooks and their tributaries and the rivers Tern, Perry, Roden, Strine and Meese and their tributaries

The Battlefield link road in Shrewsbury is closed today due to flooding, Frankwell Main and Frankwell Riverside car parks are closed.

At 6.30am this morning the river level at Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury was 2.90 metres and rising. The typical river level range for Welsh Bridge is between 0.42 metres and 2.70 metres.

The Environment Agency has around 87 flood warnings and more than 289 flood alerts in place, with river levels rising further as bands of rain sweep the country.
