A Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman, said: “Flood barriers will be taken down in the Gorge by 6pm today providing full access to the Wharfage.

“Following advice given by the Environment Agency, flood barriers will be taken up in the Wharfage today.

“All shops, restaurants and public houses on the Wharfage can still be accessed and parking will also be available.

“We will continue to monitor the situation in the Gorge very closely especially when rain is expected.”

In Shrewsbury, town centre car parks in Shrewsbury are starting to return to normal following the recent flooding.

St Julian’s Friars car park is fully open, and Frankwell Main car park partially opened at 9am. More parking spaces will be available as flood levels continue to go down.

Frankwell Riverside car park remains closed as the Environment Agency is likely to be operating the flood defences until Saturday.

The River Severn remains on Flood Alert through the county with Flood Warning in place at Ironbridge and Jackfield, Bridgnorth, Quatford, Hampton Loade and Highley.

At 8am this morning the level at the Buildwas Gauge was 4.99 metres and falling. A peak level of 5.32 metres occurred at 3:15pm yesterday afternoon.
