Heavy rain which fell overnight in the Welsh hills is expected to spark a number of Flood Warnings along the River Severn in Shropshire which is currently on Flood Alert. The Rea and Cound Brook in Shropshire is also responding to the recent and ongoing rain.
In Shrewsbury and Ironbridge flood barriers remain in place.
A Telford & Wrekin Council Spokesman, said: “Although flood barriers remain in place in the Gorge, shops, restaurants and public houses are very much open as normal.
“Parking is still available in the Gorge with partial parking available along The Wharfage between the museum of Iron and the junction of New Road.
“Like many areas across the country, the River Seven is an area that is affected by severe rainfall. With the expected bad weather on its way, we are continuing to take precautions to protect our residents. Therefore the flooding barrier will remain in place to ensure that our communities remain safe and our infrastructure is protected.”
Frankwell car park is being closed by Shropshire Council from 11pm on Saturday.
Anna Higgins from the Safer Roads Partnership said “We are urging all motorists to exercise caution in adverse weather conditions, use common sense and follow our simple advice. Localised flooding still exists in many places across the region and the current forecast is predicting more of the same. The bad weather we have already had has shown just how quickly roads can become flooded and very dangerous.
Andy Page, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: “We have issued severe weather warnings for the heavy rain and gales and will be monitoring the situation to keep everyone up-to-date with the latest picture through our forecasts and warnings. By thinking ahead the public can be more weather aware and better prepared for severe weather.”
