Shawbury firefighter recieves Queen’s medal

Fire-fighter Stephen Brown, 51, has been awarded the Queen’s Fire Brigades Long Service and Good Conduct Medal following completion of 20 years exemplary service.

Steve received his medal at the airbase from Area Manager (AM) John Simons, who worked with Steve for over 15 years at MOD Stafford. AM Simons was joined at the ceremony by the RAF Shawbury Station Commander, Group Captain Chris Luck and RAF Shawbury Station Fire Officer, Dave Evans.

As an airfield fire-fighter at RAF Shawbury, he covers airfield flying of aircraft from the Defence Helicopter Flying Service as well as all visiting aircraft.

Steve served as a Fire-fighter in the RAF for 13 years, whilst his wife, Jackie completed 7 years as a Personnel Administrator. Steve left the RAF for the Defence Fire Rescue Management Organisation (DFRMO), in 1991, having served his last tour at RAF Waddington. Steve also completed a tour of duty in the Falkland Islands.

Steve lives in Stafford with his wife Jackie and is an avid follower of Rugby League and Wigan Warriors. He also enjoys fishing.
