The collision happened at around 8.15am on the Corvedale Road, near Craven Arms.

Police are at the scene and have issued an urgent witness appeal to help establish the circumstances.

Several vehicles are thought to have been involved but no further details about them are available at this stage.

Paramedics were quickly at the scene which is about half a mile out of Craven Arms.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found two men lying at the side of the road.

“The first man had suffered multiple injuries and was found to be in cardiac arrest. Full resuscitation attempts were carried out but unfortunately despite best efforts nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“The second casualty, a man believed to be in 50’s, was treated for a serious leg injury. The man was given pain relief at the scene and was fully immobilised before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further assessment and treatment.”

The road has been closed from Craven Arms and the Diddlebury turn and diversions set up.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “At the moment, we are trying to establish the full circumstances behind this collision. Sadly, one person has died and another has been seriously injured.

“We are very anxious to hear from any witnesses or from anyone who thinks they might have information which could help the police investigation. Contact Ludlow or Shrewsbury police stations by calling 101.”
