The 36-year-old was arrested in Salop Street yesterday afternoon after being spotted leaving a house in Victoria Road.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: “Officers arrested the man thanks to some tremendous support from two members of the public.

“One person contacted us initially on seeing the suspect leave the address and then followed him, keeping police informed on his whereabouts. A second caller also passed on information after their suspicions were raised.

“As a result of this co-operation, officers were able to attend and quickly arrest the suspect. He has since been charged with entering a house in Victoria Road as a trespasser with intent to steal.”

The spokesperson added: “This was an excellent example of how the public can assist the police in tackling crime. We would urge people to call 999 if they see a crime in progress and the non emergency 101 number if they have any other information about criminal activity.”
