Special guest Lord Bruce Grocott will be unveiling a plaque after an opening speech, followed by photographs and a ribbon cutting on the steps outside the new building.

This will be followed by a tour of the centre led by Telford & Wrekin Council staff who have overseen the construction of the building.

The new Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre includes modern leisure facilities, a café, a new Library with First Point facilities for people to access council services and a new Register Office.

The leisure facilities include new changing facilities, state of the art equipment, a refurbished swimming pool and a new gym.

The new look state of the art library has 19 computers with free internet access for all visitors. Wifi is available throughout the building. It also has quiet study space as well as community areas.

The Register Office provides an attractive and appealing location for families to complete their registration events including births, deaths and marriages, citizenship ceremonies and other events.

It has ceremony rooms with a high quality decorative finish and furnishings as well as beautiful walled gardens.

Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “The new Civic & Leisure Centre really is fantastic, offering a wide range of facilities at the very heart of Wellington.

“It is key to the regeneration of the town and has already been very well received by local people who have used the facilities. We are delighted to be able to officially open the facility.”
