At around 8.45pm, the 35-year-old security guard – was called to the Cherry Oak car park following reports that three youths were throwing stones or bricks at passing traffic.
The victim spotted the three youths but on seeing him they immediately ran off. The victim chased after them and managed to grab hold of one of the three youths as he ran up a ramp near Hazel Bank House.
A brief altercation occurred and the victim eventually ended up on the ground. While he was on the ground the victim was kicked in the head by two of the youths before they quickly fled the scene and ran off towards Coach Central and the Brown Elm car park.
A police spokesman said: “As a result of this incident the victim suffered a twisted right knee and ankle and bruising and grazes to his head and face. Thankfully it does not appear any of the injuries are too serious.
“The three youths involved in this incident are all described as being white, between 5ft 7 and 5ft 9inches tall and as being aged between 15 and 17.
“All three are described as wearing hooded tops – one black, one light blue and the other as dark in colour, while they are also said to have slim to average builds.
