The 48-year-old man was sat with his pedal cycle in Wrockwardine Wood Way in Trench when he was approached by two unknown men at around 11.15pm on Saturday.
One of the men took the victim’s bike and swung it in the air, hitting the victim in the face and causing him to fall to the ground.
While he was on the ground he was further assaulted. The offenders fled with the bike.
A passer-by saw what happened and contacted the emergency services.
A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “Police are eager to trace anyone with information that will help them with their enquiries. In particular, officers are eager to trace the victim’s bike – a silver mountain bike – which remains outstanding.
“If you have any information then we would really like to hear from you.”
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Dean King at Telford Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
