The event will take place today at Madeley Parish Council, Jubilee House, 74 High Street, Madeley, from 4pm-6.30pm.
Since the closure of both the former Madeley Court School and Madeley Leisure Centre, the site has now become surplus to requirements.
This presents the ideal opportunity for a new redevelopment solution for the site. This could potentially generate capital to be used to help fund new leisure and education facilities along with other projects across Telford and Wrekin.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader for Telford & Wrekin Council and cabinet member with special responsibilities for Borough Towns Development, said: “The purpose of today’s consultation is to seek the views of local people by informing them of the initial ideas before a planning application is submitted.
“It is important that we seek the views of local people to help inform our redevelopment plans. I would encourage as many local people to come along to tomorrow’s drop-in session to view the proposals and have their say.â€
The proposals – which will be submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council by May 2012 – are for a mixed use development that if approved would include the following:
• Local play facilities
• Changing rooms located adjacent to the Ski Lodge to retain the public playing fields
• Commercial employment opportunities
• A brand new doctors surgery which will replace the existing practice at Church Close, Madeley.
• Up to 140 residential dwellings with local resident parking
The new proposals would also see the creation of residential parking for existing properties along Court Street to address on street parking problems. And, better pedestrian and cycle links throughout the site are also included within the proposal.
There will be an opportunity for residents to leave feedback at the exhibition or log comments via Telford & Wrekin Council’s Estates and Investments team on 01952 384333 or estates&investments@telford.gov.uk
