The proposed supermarket which would have created around 280 jobs was rejected as it was feared the supermarket would harm trade in Whitchurch town centre.

Campaigners against the supermarket giant opening a new store in the town said they were delighted with the news.

The proposed scheme had included the redevelopment of both Whitchurch Rugby Club and Whitchurch Hockey Club.
