The appeal follows a burglary at a home in Wheat Common, near Ludlow in which a pot containing about 1,000 pound coins was stolen.
Police say the burglary happened between 7pm on Saturday and 10am Monday.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for any information which might help us trace the offenders. It’s likely they will try to change the coins in a shop or bank.
“It is obviously a large amount of coinage, and if anyone’s suspicions are raised, contact Ludlow police station on the 101 non emergency number.”
Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111 for which a reward may be paid.
