Firefighters from Shrewsbury were called to the fire involving an electrical sub station at the ground 64 minutes into the match.

A section of floodlights went off with smoke seen rising from the ground as fans in the east stand were initially evacuated. A full evacuation of all 7,000 supporters took place shortly after.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and dry powder to extinguish the fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service say the evacuation was carried out in a very orderly manner; a credit to the Stewards and Safety Teams in place at the Greenhouse Meadow.

Shrewsbury were leading 1-0 against Port Vale before the match was officially abandoned after 64 minutes. Supporters are being asked to retain their tickets and a rematch will be announced shortly.
