Offenders forced their way into the property while the occupier – a woman aged in her 90s – was sat watching television.

They carried out a search of the bedroom and stole around £2,000 cash before leaving the property.

The woman discovered the burglary later that night and alerted family and police.

Officers are investigating the break-in and have appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: “The woman is extremely upset and is being comforted by family members.

“She was not approached or aware that there were any unauthorised individuals in her home.

“Police are investigating the incident and would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“If you heard or saw anything suspicious on the night, please come and speak to us. Or if you are aware of a family member or friend suddenly having some extra money without a genuine explanation, then we would also like to hear from you.”
