They will take enforcement action again drivers exceeding the 30mph limit following a series of complaints about speeding vehicles along the busy stretch of road.

Offenders will be stopped and issued with on the spot fines, penalty points on their licence and could face prosecution.

Local Policing Officer, PC Dan Wood said road safety was a priority for West Mercia Police.

“I have been asked by Shropshire Council to take enforcement action against drivers breaking the 30mph speed limit in the interests of road safety. There has been ongoing concern about the dangers caused by people driving too fast.”

He said members of the Local Policing Team would make regular stop-checks along the entire length of Sheet Road, including Sheet village and the stretch of road leading to the railway.

“However, there will be a month’s grace for the police to get the message across. But after November 14, educational awareness will cease and appropriate action of fines and reporting to court will commence.”

PC Wood said: “I want to give people due notice about what’s happening. To this end, officers will conduct educational speed checks between now and November 14 where offenders will just be warned about their driving.

“I am aware this can be a quick road and I suspect many drivers are forgetting the 30mph speed limit. Target times will be between 7am and 10am and 4pm and 7pm when the road is at its busiest with commuter traffic.”

He added: “The measure has become necessary and is a positive move to improve road safety for all road users as well as for local pedestrians.”
