Elderly man involved in four-vehicle crash near Shrewsbury dies

The man from Cheshire and aged in his 90s was pulled from his vehicle along with his wife by members of the public after it caught alight. He died yesterday.

His wife died in hospital on Tuesday evening after suffering severe injuries.

The collision happened around 2.35pm on Tuesday and involved a red Ford C Max, a silver BMW, a black Citreon Picasso and a grey Skoda Octavia estate car.

The man and woman in the BMW from Church Stretton and the male driver of the Skoda, from Lancashire, were not injured.

The man and woman in the Ford C Max from Craven Arms suffered fractures and other injuries. They were taken by air ambulance to Queen Elisabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Their vehicle was travelling on the A49 towards Bayston Hill from Church Stretton, as was the Skoda.

The BMW was travelling from Bayston Hill towards Church Stretton. The Ford and the Citreon were both destroyed due to impact.
