The popular event will still go ahead on Saturday, October 8 – in honour of Air Commodore Chris Green, who died unexpectedly aged just 52.
The RAF Benevolent Fund was held in high esteem by the popular air base commander who was also involved in the organisation of the annual gala ball which was to have been held on the eve of the RAF Cosford air show on June 11. The organising committee has now postponed the black tie and ballgown event as a mark of respect.
“Everyone on the organising committee has been devastated by his death and we have decided to postpone the gala ball until October 8. It was Chris’s event and it is in aid of his charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund, which was so dear to his heart,†said committee member and Shropshire businesswoman Jenny Wynn.
“We would like to devote the second annual gala ball in his honour as a celebration of his life. Chris Green was a remarkable man, a well respected commander at RAF Cosford, and he will be greatly missed.â€
Those who have already bought tables are being contacted and organisers are hopeful that they will transfer their booking to the new date. For more information or to book tickets contact Marc Cornell on 01902 377757 or 07539521359 or email: party@rafbf.org.uk
Last year’s inaugural gala dinner was a soaraway success raising almost £20,000 for the RAF’s leading welfare charity which helps past and present servicemen and women and their families, in need of financial or practical support.
