The Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil appeal involved fund raisers carrying out street collections and being at supermarkets in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Church Stretton and Ellesmere.

At Church Stretton, retired teachers John and Eileen Woolmer, of Leebotwood, rallied 15 friends and family to carry out the collection last month as part of the annual appeal and collected almost £900.

Mr Woolmer said: “We would like to thank all those who gave so generously on the day and the many who praised Marie Curie Cancer Care as they did so. All our volunteers want to help again next year.”

Shropshire Community Fundraiser Debbie Rowley said: “It’s an amazing amount for one couple to raise. They roped in all their friends and family. We want to thank all the volunteers who kindly gave up a few hours of their time and to everyone who donated to such a worthwhile cause.

“It all goes towards helping terminally ill people to be cared for by our nurses at home. It means so much to them.

“Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil appeal is our largest annual campaign and we take massive delight in seeing villages, towns and cities turning yellow to support Marie Curie Cancer Care.”

In Shrewsbury collectors raised £3,738, Oswestry raised £1,523.53, Church Stretton £881.57, Bridgnorth £618.32 and Ellesmere £672.07.
