Man arrested in Oswestry street for suspected drugs offences

Officers stopped and searched the man in the Church Street/English Walls area shortly after 1pm. They discovered 98 sealed bags containing a substance believed to be cannabis with a value of about £750.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled Class B drug with intent to supply, resisting arrest and assault on police.

After being taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station for interview, he was later given police bail while further inquiries are carried out.

The incident is the latest in a series of arrests carried out by police investigating illegal drug use.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: “Tackling drug problems and associated crime remains a priority. We are receiving tremendous support from the public in Shropshire, in assisting us and our partner agencies in arresting those involved.
