The competitions were launched at an event on 12 May when the Trust unveiled its plans for the new centre, which include a new reception area, outpatient unit for haematology and oncology patients and a day unit for chemotherapy and head and neck cancer patients.

The art competition invites people to submit any type of artwork, photography or sculpture which fits into either a ‘Skyscape’ or ‘Landscape’ category. All shortlisted entries will be displayed at a week-long exhibition at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in November 2011 before the winning entries are decided and displayed in the new building when it opens in Autumn 2012.

The naming competition asks people to put forward up to three names for the building, the first floor haematology department and the chemotherapy/oncology department.

Adrian Osborne, Head of Communications and Business Development at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “We are really excited to launch these competitions. We are committed to involving people in the future of our cancer and haematology services – that’s why we want you to choose the name of the building and fill it with artwork that’s been produced by local people. We look forward to receiving your entries.”

The closing date for both competitions is 5pm on 7 October 2011. To enter either competition you can download an entry form and terms and conditions from the news section of the Trust website at www.sath.nhs.uk/media, call the NHS Foundation Trust Membership Office on 01743 261473 or email members@sath.nhs.uk.
